ABOUT US

Divest Princeton is a coalition of students, faculty, and alumni calling on Princeton University to divest our endowment from fossil fuel companies and reinvest responsibly. Divest Princeton got its start in October 2019 when a group of students and alumni teamed up to write an Open Letter to President Eisgruber. Less than a year later, over 1,200 students, faculty, and alumni have signed, pledging to withhold donations to Princeton until the university divests. You can sign here.

We submitted our proposal for divestment to the Council of the Princeton University Community (CPUC) Resources Committee on February 13, 2020 - Fossil Fuel Divestment Day. The Resources Committee reviews divestment proposals before making a recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The Board makes the final call.

Timeline of Divestment at Princeton: We are not the first group to urge Princeton to divest from fossil fuels (or other industries). Princetonians have sought divestment since at least 2013, most notably when the Princeton Sustainable Investment Initiative (PSII) submitted a divestment proposal to the Resources Committee in 2014. See a timeline of fossil fuel divestment action at Princeton here.

Want to join the movement? There are a number of ways to take action - we need student, alumni, and faculty organizers, researchers, social media experts, graphic designers and filmmakers, event planners, journalists, writers, and more. Email ffdivestprinceton@gmail.com to let us know how you are interested in helping out, sign up for our weekly meetings, and join our Slack.

If you are pressed for time, here are 3 things you can do in 3 minutes:
